Dutch MPs table Parliamentary questions on Belgian gambling advertising ban
As we reported last week, the Belgian government has announced plans to introduce far-reaching gambling advertising restrictions by the end of the year.
In response, Dutch MPs Michel van Nispen (SP) and Mirjam Bikker (CU) have tabled Parliamentary questions intended to bring further pressure on Minster for Legal Protection, Franc Weerwind to introduce stringent gambling advertising restrictions in the Netherlands.
Netherlands Gambling Authority to investigate autoplay features at licensed online casinos
The Netherlands Gambling Authority has reportedly sent a letter to all licensed online casino providers announcing an investigation into prohibited autoplay features in the operators’ game offerings.
According to Dutch iGaming regulations, players must perform a conscious act to start each new spin when playing online casino games. Games that offer players the opportunity to purchase a set number of spins that are subsequently executed automatically are therefore prohibited.
Last month, the Dutch regulator issued a €300,000 suspended penalty payment to an unnamed licensed operator that offered games which included such functionality.
The recent letter calls on licensed operators to remove all games offering any kind of autoplay feature from their websites. The Dutch regulator furthermore announced that it will take enforcement action from May 23 onward if any such features remain.
