Holland Casino named “Best Multiple Casino Operator” at European Casino Awards 2023

Holland Casino has been named “Best Multiple Casino Operator” at the 2023 European Casino Awards. The Dutch state-owned operator won this prestigious award for the second year in a row.


Holland Casino CEO Petra de Ruiter commented: "This award recognizes and appreciates the hard work of all our colleagues. It is no small feat that we have won this prize for the second year in a row. It is such an amazing honor. We will try to match this result next year as well!”


Erwin van Lambaart appointed as ECA Chairman

The Board of the European Casino Association (ECA) has appointed Erwin van Lambaart, CEO of Casinos Austria and former CEO of Holland Casino, as its new chairman. Van Lambaart succeeds Per Jaldung, who stepped down after eight successful years at the helm of the association.


Van Lambaart: "I am delighted to have been appointed as Chairman of the European Casino Association by my peers in this amazing industry. I understand that it is a big responsibility to serve the ECA members in these challenging times for the casino industry.”


ICE Consumer Protection Zone awards £13,200 to Dutch self-help group AGOG

Safer gambling charities AGOG (Netherlands), Better Change, Betknowmore (both UK), and NPDG (USA) each received a donation of £13,200 at a presentation ceremony held on the opening day of ICE London.


The sponsors of the ICE Consumer Protection Zone, Kindred Group, Betsson, Flutter, IGT, Les Ambassadeurs, Only Prizes, BettorView, and Greentube, contributed to the total £52,800 donation.


This year, the ICE Consumer Protection Zone featured a record 20 stands, comprising a mix of providers of responsible gambling tools and solutions, alongside not-for-profit organizations.


“I’m delighted that thanks to the support of CPZ sponsors we’ve been able to raise such an impressive sum for organizations which do so much in the safer gambling space,” Clarion Gaming’s director of industry insight and engagement, Ewa Bakun, said.


Kindred “exceeds expectations” in the Netherlands

As part of its Q4 2022 presentation, Kindred revealed that its performance in the Netherlands had “exceeded expectations.” Kindred now estimates to have achieved a top-3 position in the market and to be “firmly on track to being the number one operator in 2023.”


The number of active customers in the Netherlands reached approximately 209,000. Average daily gross winnings revenue amounted to approximately £580,000 (€‎654,000).

Netherlands Gambling Authority issued €‎25m in fines in second half of 2022

The Netherlands Gambling Authority handed out fines totaling over €‎25m in the second half of 2022 alone, the regulator's chairperson, René Jansen said in a speech during the 2023 Kalff Katz & Franssen Annual Gaming Industry Event.


The Dutch regulator fined a total of seven unlicensed operators which were active in the Dutch online market. So far, three of the fined operators have been identified: Shark77, Equinox Dynamic, and Domiseda & Partners.

Additionally, the Dutch Gambling Authority hit Netherlands-licensed operator Bingoal with a €350,000 fine for failing to check over a three-day period whether players were registered in the country's nation exclusion register, CRUKS, before allowing them access to its website.


The violation was caused by an expired security certificate and the decision by Bingoal to continue operating rather than shutting down entirely.
