Ministry of Finance approves betting partnership deal between Holland Casino, Eredivisie, and Keuken Kampioen Divisie
State Secretary of Finance Hans Vijlbrief has approved the betting partnership deal between state-owned Holland Casino, the Netherlands’ two professional football leagues (Eredivisie and Keuken Kampioen Divisie), and ESPN.
Vijlbrief said that the deal would allow Holland Casino to create visibility for its responsible gaming offering in the soon to be regulated Dutch online market. Approximately 20% of Holland Casino's marketing efforts will be aimed at promoting responsible gambling and problem gambling prevention.
Vijlbrief stressed that no Covid-19 relief funds will be used to finance the deal.
Netherlands Gambling Authority publishes market vision
The Netherlands Gambling Authority has published its long-term vision for the Dutch gambling market. The regulator finds that well-regulated markets (and the abolishment of monopolies and the privatization of state-owned companies) offer the best avenue to protect the largest number of consumers.
The vision document is aimed at policy makers and meant to inform future structural reforms of the overall Dutch gambling market. The underlying assumptions of the document are that similar products should be treated similarly and that the internet has made restrictions on product offerings (to channel customer demand) increasingly unworkable in practice.

Netherlands Gaming Authority clarifies license application deadlines & customer database purge
The Netherlands Gambling Authority has updated the information available on its website regarding the remote license application process.
For instance, the regulator announced, contrary to earlier reports, that license applicants will be allowed to submit the certified audit report of their game system, which should normally be part of the initial license application, up to three months later, until July 1, 2021 – but only if the initial license application was submitted prior to April 15, 2021.
The Dutch regulator also clarified the requirement that license applicants purge their customer databases of the customers they acquired when they were operating without a license. Specifically, license holders are not allowed to make use of personal data for marketing purposes of which they know, or can reasonably suspect, that these have been obtained in the context of participating, by the persons concerned, in games of chance for which the Netherlands Gambling Authority has not granted a license. Similarly, when registering players, license holders are not allowed to make use of personal data that were already in their possession prior to obtaining a license in accordance with the Dutch Gambling Act.
Please note: more information (in English) on the license application conditions and requirements is available in the upcoming issue of the Gaming in Holland Magazine. Request your free copy here: https://signup.gamingin.eu/
