Nederlandse Loterij objects to postponement of Dutch online market opening
Nederlandse Loterij strongly opposes any further delay in the implementation of the Remote Gaming Act, the operator’s CEO Niels Onkenhout says in Dutch daily De Telegraaf.
According to Onkenhout, swift implementation of the Act is necessary to protect Dutch consumers who gamble online during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Netherlands Gambling Authority also supports a rapid implementation of the Remote Gaming Act.
Meanwhile, Holland Casino and trade association VAN Kansspelen, while not objecting to the Act coming into force as scheduled on January 1, 2021, are lobbying hard to push the opening of the online market beyond July 1, 2021. Land-based casino operators claim that the impact of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic makes it impossible to properly prepare for the new market situation.
The Permanent Committee for Justice and Security of the Dutch Lower House will meet tomorrow to discuss what is next for the Remote Gaming Act’s secondary legislation.
Dutch land-based casino to reopen on July 1
Dutch land-based casinos and amusement arcades will be allowed to reopen on July 1, if circumstances permit.
Venues will operate at limited capacity and players will be subject to additional public health measures.
IBIA and Speel Verantwoord sign cooperation agreement on betting and integrity
The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) and the Netherlands online gambling trade body Stichting Speel Verantwoord (SSV) have signed a partnership agreement providing a framework for cooperation and coordination between the two bodies.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) will see the associations work on projects aimed at promoting and establishing viable regulated betting markets with high consumer channeling and related consumer, sports and operator integrity protection measures.
Peter-Paul de Goeij, Managing Director of the SSV, said “There are a significant number of companies that are members of both associations and there is clear benefit for our two bodies from working closely in the lead up to the introduction of the remote gambling law. Whilst both associations welcome the opening of the market, the law places a number of restrictions on certain betting products on integrity grounds, which both the SSV and IBIA have questioned; there is a general concern about the impact on consumer channelization and market viability.”

Netherlands Gambling Authority to publish CRUKS connection protocol by mid-June
Netherlands Gambling Authority chairman René Jansen announced that the regulator will reveal specific details about the connection procedure between operators’ customer databases and the Dutch national player exclusion register (CRUKS) by mid-June.
Jansen made this announcement during last week’s Gaming in Holland webinar “Complying with CRUKS: Getting ready for the Dutch national exclusion register.”
