The first edition of GiH’s new webinar series will take place on Wednesday, April 29 at 15:00. Register now!
The Dutch Ministry of Justice and Security is currently expected to answer the latest batch of Parliamentary questions on the secondary legislation accompanying the Remote Gaming Act on or before April 24.
These answers will likely clarify the timetable for the practical implementation of the Remote Gaming Act. We hope to be able to shed more light on the what & when regarding the preparations prospective licensees should be undertaking soon.
Alternatively, it cannot be entirely excluded that the global Covid-19 pandemic will lead to further delays. In short, we will be soon arriving at yet another moment of truth.
Because of this, the webinar that we originally had scheduled for April 22 will now take place one week later, on April 29.

Netherlands Gambling Authority publishes information on CRUKS national exclusion register
Due to the cancellation of a series of scheduled public information meetings on the Dutch national exclusion register CRUKS, the Netherlands Gambling Authority has now published relevant information on the register on its website.
The provided information is primarily aimed at land-based operators.
According to the current timetable, land-based operators will have to implement CRUKS on January 1, 2021 – six months prior to the projected opening of the regulated online gambling market.
Global gambling sector still taking hits
According to estimates provided by H2 Gambling Capital, global gambling gross win totals for the year 2020 are now expected to be 15.6% lower than originally projected.
Instead of the pre-pandemic projection of $473.5bn in global gambling gross win totals, the sector is now expected to realize $399.6bn in 2020 – essentially setting the industry back to 2013 levels.
While the projected downgrade in Europe is slightly lower (13.6%) than the global average, certain European markets – such as Italy and Spain – are almost certainly being hit much harder than others.

Holland Casino’s revenue and profit both grew in 2019. Gross revenues totaled €728.9m, up 11% compared to the previous year, while pre-tax profits increased to €89.6m (up 8.3%).
The number of unique visitors (1.2m) and total visits (6.2m) increased with 9.8% and 8.3%, respectively.
2019 was also the first full year that Holland Casino’s newest branch in Amsterdam-West and its temporary replacement branch in the city of Groningen (after the original location was destroyed by a fire in 2017) contributed fully to the company’s annual results.
Despite the strong results, the state-owned operator agreed with the Dutch Ministry of Finance to suspend dividend paymentsdue to the ongoing Covid-19 crisis.
All Holland Casino branches are currently closed and will remain so until at least April 28.
