Gaming in Germany Conference Rescheduled to May 28
Due to concerns over the ongoing Corona virus outbreak, the Gaming in Germany Conference, originally scheduled for March 24-25, has been postponed until May 28.
The rescheduled conference will still take place in Frankfurt. We expect to announce a new venue soon.
While now is not the best time for traveling and public gatherings, German online gambling reform continues to move ahead. Tomorrow, the prime ministers of the sixteen federal German states are expected to sign the new State Gambling Treaty, creating a fully regulated online gambling market from July 1, 2021.
As the topic of German gambling reform remains of major importance to the remote gaming industry, we will organize at least one webinar before the rescheduled Gaming in Germany Conference takes place on May 28.
The first webinar, with input from Dr Jörg Hoffman of Melchers Law and VIXIO GamblingCompliance, has already been scheduled for March 25 at 15:00 CET. Save the date!
In addition, we aim to publish a hardcopy country report containing an overview of the new regulations, as well as stakeholder reactions.
In short, we remain committed to keeping you informed of the latest events as they develop.

Dutch Gov’t Extends Cooling-Off Period
Last week, the Dutch Ministry of Justice and Security published a draft General Administrative Order (AMvB) containing further details regarding the practical implementation of the country’s Remote Gaming Act.
In addition to the General Administrative Order, the Ministry also sent letters to both houses of Parliament outlining a limited number of further changes to earlier regulatory proposals.
The most notable change compared to previous proposals is that the cooling-off period will be extended another six months. This means operators may not apply for a Dutch remote license if they have actively targeted the Dutch market at any time in the 30 months prior to the date of their license application.
Assuming the current schedule holds, the Netherlands Gambling Authority will start processing license applications from January 1, 2021. It will take approximately six months to process an application. In other words, operators who have targeted the Dutch market after July 1, 2017 will not be immediately able to enter the regulated Dutch market when it opens.
Industry stakeholders hailed the publication of the AMvB as a “big step in the right direction,” but also raised concerns that the intended timetable could be too ambitious.
