Fading boundaries and blurred lines - Marja Appelman on the need for international cooperation

Updated: Feb 4

Netherlands Gaming Authority CEO and Gaming Regulators European Forum (GREF) Chairwoman Marja Appelman delivered a keynote speech at the 2018 annual EUROMAT meeting in Monte Carlo.

In her speech, Appelman addressed the fading bundaries and increasingly blurred lines, for example between:

  • countries

  • gaming and gambling

  • land-based and remote gambling

While some lines are blurring, each European country has its own gaming policies and regulations, Appelman said. "This demands a certain aligning between regulators. In a way that operators can innovate and consumers can gamble safely. And that is why GREF is still very much needed."
