An End to Dutch Gambling Levies?

In the wake of a recent advice by the Council of State stating that oversight serves a public purpose and should thus be paid from general funds, employers’ organizations VNO-NCW and MKB-Nederland are now calling on the Dutch government to cease passing on oversight costs to corporations.

If their appeal ends up being successful (admittedly a big if), gaming operators would no longer be held responsible for financing the Netherlands Gaming Authority.

Successful Live Gaming Summit Concludes in Barcelona

A successful Live Gaming Summit, bringing live gaming operators and providers together in Barcelona, concluded yesterday.

Despite Record Sports Betting Turnover, French Licensed Online Operators Collectively Lose €5m in 2015

Six years after the launch of the regulated French online market, profitability remains elusive as French-licensed operators collectively lost €5m in 2015, according to figures published by the Autorité de régulation des jeux en ligne (ARJEL).

Of all the verticals, only racing generated an operating surplus (€10m), while sportsbook and poker operators each lost around €7m.

A combination of tax reform, permitting licensees to offer a wider variety of online products and shared poker liquidity with other European regulated markets would be necessary in order to create a healthy online market, ARJEL suggested.

German Online Casino Association to Be Launched at EiG Conference

The German Online Casino Association will be officially launched at the upcoming Excellence in Gaming Conference, which will be taking place on 18-20 October, 2016, in Berlin.

Holland Casino to Open Second Flagship Casino in Amsterdam

Sometime during the first half of 2017 and ahead of its imminent privatization, Holland Casino is set to open a second flagship casino in the Dutch capital.

As Holland Casino owns a fixed number of casino licenses, its branch at Schiphol Airport will close as soon as the casino at the new location opens.

“Our new casino in Amsterdam West is situated at a top location that is easy to reach for both inhabitants of Amsterdam and outside visitors. The new branch will be part of state-of-the-art business and entertainment complex Ven,” Holland Casino CEO Erwin van Lambaart said. “This is an important step for the future of Holland Casino. Our Schiphol branch was not profitable; a modern casino with at this location will enable us to strengthen our position,” Van Lambaart added.

As the new casino will offer employment to more than 170 FTEs, Holland Casino is already recruiting.

In related news, a lucky punter won a €1m jackpot on one of Holland Casino’s Mega Millions slot machines, a mere week after another Mega Millions winner took home €2,250,000.
