UK Betting Firms Have Spent nearly £500m on TV Adverts since 2012
Spending on TV advertisements by UK gaming operators has been growing steadily since the country’s Gambling Act came into force in 2007, The Guardian reports:
“Betting firms have spent nearly half a billion pounds on TV adverts since 2012, according to new figures that show a sustained increase in the value of advertising aimed at wooing potential gamblers.
Companies offering sports betting, bingo, online casino games and poker spent £118.5m on TV spots in 2015, compared with £81.2m in 2012, according to the figures compiled for the Guardian by media analysts Nielsen.
The 46% rise in annual spending over the period means the industry has shelled out a combined £456m since 2012. When the £169m spent by lottery firms is taken into account, the figure rises to £631m.”
Although gambling firms have been buying an increasingly large slice of the TV advertising market, complaints about them have actually decreased.
European Casino Association Seeks to Establish Responsible Gaming Certification System
Dietmar Hoscher, Director of Casinos Austria and Vice President of the European Casino Association (ECA), recently said that certification by an independent body offers major advantages to licensed casinos. “A certificate issued by an independent certification body affords consumers the certainty that a casino’s responsible gaming measures and systems are reliable, reputable and based on the latest scientific findings.”
The complicated regulatory situation in Europe means that it is not always easy for consumers to determine which operators take responsible gaming seriously and which only claim to do so, Hoscher added.
“World Regulatory Briefing – Responsible Gambling Innovation” to Take Place September 8 in London
The debate on responsible gaming is set to continue in early September in London. Topics of discussion are the validity of current responsible gaming methods, smart ways of segmenting and analyzing data, as well as the future regulatory requirements across Europe.
Moreover, “acting responsibly is a good business strategy,” Sadie Walters, Senior Event Producer at Clarion Events writes: “The more effective and innovative an operator’s RG strategy becomes, the more financially competitive an operator will be, from things like increased customer satisfaction to sustainable, brand loyal consumers and shareholder engagement.”
Swedish Operator Betsson to Sponsor Dutch Ice Hockey Association
Kroon Casino, a brand of Swedish operator Betsson, has agreed to become the main sponsor of the Dutch Ice Hockey Association (NIJB) – as soon as the pending remote gaming legislation passes the Dutch Senate.
Following the controversial sponsorship deal between Unibet and the Royal Dutch Cycling Union, this is the second instance of a foreign operator sponsoring a Dutch sports association – even though NOC*NSF, the overall coordinating Dutch sports organization, has been openly pressuring its member associations to not sign any sponsorship deals with competitors of incumbent operator (and its main sponsor) Nederlandse Loterij.
“This deal represents a huge boost for the sport of ice hockey in the Netherlands. The very announcement of our cooperation has already had a positive impact on all levels of our organization,” Rob van Rijswijk, Secretary General of NIJB, said.
