Netherlands Gaming Authority Prioritizes Protection of Minors in 2018

The Netherlands Gaming Authority’s top priority in the coming years is to prevent minors from engaging in gambling, according to the regulator’s recently released “Supervisory Agenda 2018-2019.”

Apart from illegal operators who knowingly accept underage players, some licensed operators may not take sufficiently efficient measures to exclude minors, the regulator said.

The Gaming Authority’s other main priorities are the prevention of gambling addiction and keeping unlicensed (online) operators off the Dutch market.

Dutch State Lottery Plans for Possible Privatisation

The Netherlands Gaming Authority, in consultation with the Ministries of Justice and Finance, has decided to abolish several provisions that currently determine the minimum extent of the Dutch State Lottery’s mandatory remittance to the state’s coffers.

The move appears to have been inspired by a desire to allow the State Lottery greater financial flexibility in case the operator needs to prepare for its privatization.

The Dutch government is currently considering four policy options for reorganizing the country’s several lottery monopolies.
