Dutch Regulatory Pressure Negatively Impacts Betsson and Kindred Revenue

Both Betsson and the Kindred Group have admitted that regulatory pressure from the Netherlands Gambling Authority has negatively impacted their revenues during the last nine months.

“We continue to experience headwinds in the Netherlands due to the removal of the iDEAL payment solution,” Kindred Group said in a press release.

The Netherlands Gambling Authority has been aggressively pursuing remote gambling operators – including Kindred’s Unibet brand – who offer this specific payment solution, which requires a Dutch bank account.

Similarly, the Betsson Group reported “continued weak trends in Sweden and the Netherlands” in the period between January and September 2019. Earlier this year, the operator was forced to rebrand its Netherlands-facing online casino brands due to their “Dutch-sounding” names.
