Netherlands Gaming Authority Issues Cease and Desist Orders to Staatsloterij, Holland Casino, Others, for Targeting Minors with Web Ads
The Netherlands Gaming Authority found that several licensed operators, including Holland Casino, Staatsloterij, De Lotto, Nationale Postcodeloterij, BankGiro Loterij, and VriendenLoterij, have allowed their web ads to appear on websites aimed at minors, such as Donaldduck.nl, Scholieren.com, and Spelletjes.nl.
The regulator has issued cease and desist orders and imposed penalty payments of up to €100,000 in case the operators are found to have repeated their offenses.
All operators promised to take adequate measures to remedy the situation.
VVD Considers Amendment to Introduce Fixed Ending Date for Temporary Gaming Tax Increase
During a meeting of the Permanent Committee for Finance of the Dutch Lower House, MP Aukje de Vries (VVD) said that her group is considering to propose a legislative amendment that would mandate the setting of a fixed ending date for the temporary gaming tax rate increase that is proposed by the Dutch government.
According to current proposals, the ending date of the tax increase for currently licensed operators will be dependent on the adoption of the remote gaming bill by the Dutch Senate. The increase will automatically expire six months after enactment of the bill.
MP Edgar Mulder (PVV) also reiterated his position that the proposed temporary increase should automatically end after one year.
However, State Secretary Menno Snel of Finance (D66) said that in the government’s opinion it would be better to maintain a direct connection between the duration of the temporary tax increase and further legislative progress on the remote gaming bill in order “to keep up the pressure” on the Senate.
